The Malaysia Chess Festival starts tomorrow.
More than a fortnight ago, I was asked by Hamid Majid, the secretary of the Malaysian Chess Federation, to rack my brains for a suitable story for the souvenir book. I must admit that not having written any chess article since last February has deeply affected me. In short, I have simply lost track of many things about Malaysian chess.
Hamid asked me to do a caricature on the local players ala George Orwell’s Animal Farm style. Thanks, but no thanks, I told him. It may be humorous but I don’t want to open myself to making sensitive people unhappy. After all, who wants to be referred to as a goat or a horse or a pig … or any other animal?
Anyway, I have submitted my story to Hamid for his souvenir book. You’ll see it online here tomorrow. In the meantime, you’ll have to wait…
