Penang Sentral

Penang Sentral

Is this is how Penang Sentral in Butterworth will look like when the project is completed in three years’ time?

The RM2 billion transportation hub under the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) was launched by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in July.

Penang Sentral is broadly modeled after the KL Sentral in the sense that the hub will comprise an integrated terminal for rail and road travel and, in the case of Penang, sea travel as well. Above the terminal will be a development of commercial and residential properties, all sited on 12.8 hectares of land beside the sea.

The site of the project was once the Butterworth bus terminal before it was razed in a fire in May 2001. Since then, the building has been torn down and the buses now operate from a makeshift terminal that is an eye-sore to many people.
