Come interview us

What a wonderful concept for a job advertisement.

Normally, newbies in the job hunt – as well as some seasoned job hunters – never really give a thought that the interview process is actually a two-way communication between the employer and the candidate. One side will ask the questions and the other side will give the answers.

But it’s not always the employer that should be asking all the questions. As a candidate, it is in your best interest to ask questions of the employer, especially when you need the employer to clarify a point. When you don’t understand what the interviewer wants, ask him to elaborate. Don’t just simply answer. You may be going off-point and nobody is the wiser. Worse, that’s a bad impression you’re creating in the interviewer’s mind.

However, the interview session is also the opportunity for you to seek answers from the employer. If you have prepared yourself well for the interview (note: do your homework by trying to find out as much about the company beforehand), here is the right time to ask about the company, it’s future plans, the role you are expected to play in the company if successfully employed, and other pertinent questions. It impresses the employer if they find you wanting to know as much about them as they want to know about you.

So understand that the job interview should be a communication between you and the employer. Ask them questions. Interview them. It’s a wonderful concept. Try it.
